La, La, How The Life Goes On

The song title this week is from Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da by The Beatles.  I'm really sorry that you've now gotten this song stuck in your head for God knows how long :)

Yeah, so, I'm obviously quite crappy at this whole blogging even remotely regularly thing.  I guess it's because I've got absolutely nothing going on in my life (certainly nothing worth telling anyone about).  I've missed blogging about quite a few knitterly things over the past month or so, but if I tried to cover them all in this blog entry, we'd all be here for hours.

Most recently, I've finished knitting a February Lady Sweater.  I'm calling her The International February Lady because I knit part of her on the plane to Mexico (oh yeah, I went to Mexico with my parents for a week last Sunday), I finished knitting her in Mexico, and her buttons come from my trip to visit my brother in Norway.  I really like the way she turned out, and I'm glad that I decided to make the modifications that I did.

I tell of all of my trials and tribulations with this sweater in my project description (haha, yeah, there were quite a few), so I won't repeat myself.

Ha, whilst taking these photos of my sweater in my front hall/foyer, I managed to fall flat on my ass (well, more like sliding into the table and corner of the stairwell using my entire right side). I now have huge, gnarly bruises on my elbow (which I temporarily thought I might have broken until I was able to bend it...my fingers were tingling in the most uncomfortable ways), knee and foot. I should have one on my hip, but I guess I landed on the fat/muscle portion and it didn't bruise, although it still hurts and I know that there's a bump there that's being disguised by virtue of its location. Yeah, way to go, Kel. You would do something like slide in your socks on the ceramic tile floor...while you were home alone...and far away from a phone if you actually broke something. I'm going to ask my parents to get me a "Help! I've Fallen and I Can't Get Up!" pendant :)

Our floors have gotten exponentially more slippery in the past months. I do a Tom Cruise in Risky Business move on the wood floor in our family room every time I walk on it. We recently got a wonderful woman to clean for us because my mom received some news about her health shortly after I got home that made her realize that she'd rather spend her life not cleaning and traveling instead (hence yet ANOTHER trip to Mexico - this was our second time to this resort just outside of Cancun, and our sixth trip in total to the country. Yes, I know how lucky I am to have these opportunities to travel like I do, and I'm certainly not unappreciative. However, I will be honest and say that I really didn't want to go with them this time. It's one thing to be living at home, jobless and frankly pathetic while I'm trying to figure out my life, but it's another thing to be taken to a beautiful resort on my parents' dime as a result of being home. I didn't deserve to be away. I most of all didn't want to talk to the other resort guests about why I was away with my parents and not in school. It's hard to explain to people, and even harder when you're in that sort of situation. It wasn't as bad as I thought it might be, but I still don't think I deserved to be there). I think she's cleaning the floor with something (or maybe she's just cleaning it more often) that's making it slippery. I'm not blaming my klutziness on her, but I really will break something knowing myself :) Hey, I dislocated my knee in ballet class when I was eleven because I had to pee. This led to me re-dislocating it walking down the stairs and needing surgery when I was barely seventeen. I can't handle this slippery floor crap :)

Ok, enough about my bruises. Back to the knitty.

I'm knitting another February Lady Sweater (sorry, I don't have pictures) for my Godfather's wife (she's like my aunt). We went to her house for the Superbowl and I was knitting my sweater while I was there. She kept asking when I would be done with her sweater and joking around about it, so I decided I might as well just make her one - I needed something to make while I was in Mexico.

Knitting at the Superbowl party. Yeah, thanks for this one, Mom.

I knit using my Harmony Options on the plane from New York to Cancun. I had no problems whatsoever, I got right through security and enjoyed my sweater while trying to drown out the scent of B.O. from the man sitting next to me. On the way from Cancun to Mexico a week later, I wore my finished sweater and packed the half-knitted February Lady Sweater for my Auntie in my carry-on (with my stuffed frogs, Robin and Otis). I've flown through Heathrow, Madrid, two Norwegian airports, Paris, and New York with knitting before. Well, apparently they have very high security standards in Cancun. ARE YOU $#!*ing me?! I can buy Vicodin and Viagra in the airport without a prescription, but I can't bring my freakin' WOODEN knitting needles through your "security"?! ARHHHADGHLSDJGJLKLWEIOJL!!!!! I'm still very P.O.ed about this. I practically had a hissy fit in broken Spanish and English. I ended up paying $20 for an extra piece of baggage (i.e. a freakin' BOX with my knitting in it) to be checked (because we couldn't get my luggage back) so that I wouldn't have to surrender my needles. After going back through security, I joked (quietly) with my mom about an 18 year old girl using her wooden knitting needles as nun-chucks to hijack the plane with her two frog puppets on each hand. Yep, Robin and Otis, my co-pilots. Blah, I was ticked. Next time I'm just going to unscrew the tips and put them in a bag with pencils. They wouldn't have known the difference. They missed the thicker metal needle I had in my bag to bind off. Airports and airport security deserve their own circle in Dante's Hell.

Anyway, I think I've b*tched enough for today. I'll go tend to my injuries. Happy knitting, everyone!

  1. Aww Kell....please dont injure yourself. That wouldnt be good! Your sweater looks amazing!! It's so cute on you. I havent had problems with airport secruity here in Canada. Mind you I have only ever flown within Canada. But yes they are stupid. They are all in a class of their own. Cant wait to see pictures of your Auntie's FLS.
